Run-off Candidate: Michael Garza
To my fellow Fordham Law students,
My name is Michael Garza and I am running for SBA Treasurer. The results of last week’s elections were tallied and the voting for the treasurer position resulted in a tie. As a result run off elections will be held this week. I want to begin by thanking everybody that voted. If you voted for me last week I hope to have your vote again this week. If you voted for a different candidate I hope I can convince you to vote for me this time around.
As a 1L Section Representative I have the privilege of representing the students from my section. The position has allowed me to gain an understanding of how the SBA works and how it can help students. Additionally, I am an active member in the Sports Law Forum (helped host 1st Annual Fordham National Basketball Negotiation Competition), Mentoring Youth through Legal Education, LALSA, and the Committee on Diversity in Business Law. This has allowed me to see the budget constraints our organizations are under and the importance of having a responsible and involved treasurer.
Prior to law school I worked four years at Wells Fargo Bank, where I handled large transactions and amounts of cash. I was also required to ensure transactions were conducted correctly and that both cash drawers and vaults were in balance at the end of the day. Also, as a business analyst for Target Corporation I successfully helped redesign a chain wide department. The focus of the project was to maximize sales for the department while adhering to strict budget and compliance restraints.
My goal as SBA treasurer is to improve transparency by helping students better understand the process behind the budget allocation. I hope to improve its and specifically the process of funding reimbursements. Finally, I hope to make the process as fair and open as possible.
I believe my SBA, prior work experience, and commitment to Fordham Law allows me to be a qualified and trustworthy candidate. It would be an honor to have the opportunity to continue to serve the law school, as SBA Treasurer.
