Amanda Yu for President

Submitted by on March 2 – 20132 Comments

To my fellow students of FLS,

My name is Amanda Yu, and I am running for SBA President.

Being SBA President is more than just an extracurricular activity.  It’s not just a position to boost you résumé.  It’s truly a full time job.

As SBA President, I will strive to provide students with the support they need to get through another year of these rough three years.  On any given day, a million things can go wrong: the printer’s busted, can’t open your locker, servers are down.  The last thing you want to hear is someone saying, “Well, what did you expect?”

I want to build a better Fordham.  A Fordham that we can all be proud to be a part of.  A Fordham that will surpass your expectations.  A Fordham that will surprise you.  In a good way.

I promise to work closely with the student body – your voices will be heard.  I want to make the position of SBA President more accessible.  The SBA President is more than just a liaison between the students and administration.  The President is an advocate.  Just as we will soon represent our clients, I believe that it would be my duty as President to advocate for the needs of the whole student body.

As SBA Events Senator this past year, I spent countless hours managing the official SBA Secretary email account, updating the official SBA calendars, and corresponding with student leaders.  I worked to make sure the student organizations could table in the cafeteria as they needed.  I encouraged student leaders to get involved with administration through small meetings with Dean Martin.

As APALSA Mentorship Chair, I corresponded with 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls to create a supportive environment where anyone could seek guidance and advice from their peers and upperclassmen.

I have gained valuable experience – learning how the system works from the perspectives of a student, an organization leader, and an SBA Board member.  I will use this experience to make changes at FLS. I will further stress the need for transparency between administration and students.  I will encourage more alumni involvement in all appropriate aspects of Fordham including networking and mentorship.  I will work with CPC to ensure that the programs provided are in line with student needs and interests.

What you need to know is that I am here for you.  My stances on issues don’t matter unless they are informed by the opinions of the student body.  So if you want paper towels in the bathrooms, I’ll fight to get them back in.  If you want to prevent another Kacz-Gate from ever happening again, I’ll fight for a change in protocol.  If you want law school to be more enjoyable, I’ll fight for your right to party.

I will advocate for the student body of Fordham Law.

Vote Amanda Yu for SBA President!

Together with Paola Arzeno (VP), Justin Peters (Secretary), and Michael Garza (Treasurer), WE WILL BUILD A BETTER FORDHAM!
