Dear Fordham Law,
Welcome to The Record.
The idea for a student-run newspaper at Fordham isn’t new. The Law School once proudly hosted the Advocate for decades, and over the past 10 years, several attempts, both official (a revival of the Advocate), and non-official (the online Fordham Law University Pigeon) were made to revive the tradition. We are not first in line, but we are a handful of dedicated students who believe in the importance of a student newspaper and have worked diligently since spring of 2012 to try to reestablish an important tradition.
We learned firsthand that starting a publication from scratch is incredibly difficult. We hit many bumps in the road, and will surely find more during the next several months.
Starting a newspaper at a Law School is next to impossible, but it is essential. Fordham students and faculty are busy, and finding the will to prioritize extra time to inform the community is challenging. However, we are all members of the Fordham community. Our students are paying a lot to be here and we have both a right and an obligation to know what is going on at this school and to actively participate in this community.
That said, the Record will not survive without the support of the entire Fordham community. We ask for your patience, your engagement, your understanding, and your contributions. We are here to serve Fordham students, faculty, and staff.
In a little more than a year, those of us who have been working so hard to build a student newspaper will graduate. Until then, help us build a solid foundation for the Record, so it will be sure to continue long after we become alumni.
We look forward to working with you.
